providingthreePCsoftwaretemplateswithdifferent

functionsthatCANnodedesignerscanuseasneeded.

Byusingoneofthetemplates,theusercanread,

display,andmodifyalloftheregistersintheMCP2515

downtothebitlevel.Anothertemplatecan

demonstratebasicinput/outputfunctionalityby

allowingmessagestobetransmittedandreceivedon

theCANbus.Finally,thethirdtemplateisa

demonstrationtemplatethat,byusinga

preprogrammedPICmicro

®

microcontroller(MCU),

implementsatwonodeCANbusthatgetstheuser“on

thebus”intheshortestamountoftimeandeffort.

Thisapplicationnoteservesasathree-parttutorialfor

theMCP2515anddiscussesthethreesoftware

templatesindetailaswellastheimportantmenuitems.
